AIDS Walk 2017

    The painting itself is a reflection of the day in general. I was on site to paint from 7:30am-10am Saturday morning, April 29th. The activities were scheduled as a rain-or-shine event, but the walk itself was cancelled due to it being rained out. Since all of the tents had previously been set up and the walk wasn't cancelled until after 8:45am, there was a still a sizable amount of people who turned out for the event regardless of rain, wind, thunder and lightning. 

    I decided to create an image that reflected the large turn out of people that decided to come together as a community who, despite hanging out for two hours in rain soaked shoes or while sloshing around in mud; stayed to take photos, drank coffee and shared stories with one another. In the painting, you'll see hints of lightning bolts and black storm clouds. The colors were a reflection of the red shirts everyone was wearing during the event (when you bleach a red shirt, they turn pink, so of course I added that color). The rest of the painting is just frenetic energy.
