Mattie Rhodes Cultural Arts Center,

“Grow Up Great” is a mural designed by JT Daniels Art LLC for the newly constructed Mattie Rhodes Cultural Arts Center, which is located in the historic westside community adjacent to the crossroads. The mural design celebrates childhood growth and development through the viewpoint of community arts, where Mattie Rhodes Center has been an advocate for both the arts and child development for decades in multiple urban communities across the metro. Within the design, there are references to a few of the creative activities that children are able to participate in while at Mattie Rhodes in the afterschool programs they offer. There are also cultural references (the marigold flowers in the foreground of the mural and also day of the dead inspired masks hanging from the ceiling) present within the design that bear significance to the mission of Mattie Rhodes and it’s continued commitment to youth development.
