I created a live painting for the Nelson Atkins Museum's Third Thursday Event, "The Emerald City", which was based on a combination of The Wizard of OZ and The Wiz. Normally, the hardest part about creating a painting live within a limited time frame is both coming up with a concept that will resonate with the crowd and actually finishing the painting before time runs out. The only problem I could say I experienced during this event were the constant distractions! So many people that wanted to ask questions, discuss artistic preferences, style techniques, favorite exhibits...one lady even let me sit down for a second with her family and proceeded to share her grits/shrimp dish with me (we had never met before this event.)
It was a great night. The funk / soul music was more than easy to vibe to while painting/conversing. The painting itself sold at the end of the night, which ended up being the best way to wrap the night up before being kicked out the older lady who was the overzealous (but sweet) security guard, lol.
